Graduation

Today I went to the Oxford High School graduation to help Bruce with video production. It was a pretty nice ceremony. There were two interesting speeches - first was done by the 10 graduates with the top GPA's. They each picked one year of their education to reflect on. I loved that they started their education career in 1996 - the year I graduated. They reflected on the music like the Spice Girls and N'sync. Harry Potter was published was when they were in third grade (or when I was in college.)

However the best speech was done by that of the principal.
I will quote part of the speech:

"Once upon a time
Not so long ago

Tommy used to work on the docks
Unions been on strike
Hes down on his luck...its tough, so tough
Gina works the diner all day
Working for her man, she brings home her pay
For love - for love

She says weve got to hold on to what weve got
cause it doesnt make a difference
If we make it or not
Weve got each other and thats a lot
For love - well give it a shot

Chorus:
Whooah, were half way there
Livin on a prayer
Take my hand and well make it - I swear
Livin on a prayer"

Oh yeah - he started singing the 1986 (I was 8 years-old) Bon Jovi hit - Living on a Prayer! I loved it - however, I am not sure that a lot of the graduates knew the song - but some did because it is part of the collection in Rockband 2. I could listen to that speech again and would be willing to attend another event where he was the key note speaker.

I was fine until you mentioned you were eight in 1986. I turned twenty-nine that year.

Other than that, great post. :)
